As a
teenager, my family acquired a
Lhasa Apso puppy. And
thus began an adventure that I
certainly could not predict!
Little did I know the impact
this little dog would have on
my life!
Being of an
inquisitive nature, I began to
try to find more information
on the breed. There was
little to be had, but I did
come across a small paperback
book written by Frances Sefton.
In the meantime, I went to
college and married while
still a student. My
parents would not let GiGi
come with me but I was
determined to have another dog
of the same breed. My
husband did not believe in
actually paying money for a
dog and insisted that if I
wanted a dog that I would need
to find a source of funds!
So I took the challenge, found
a baby sitter for our
daughter, and went to work for
a temp agency. Two weeks
later, money in hand, I found
a little black bitch, 9 months
of age. The lady who
referred me to the breeder of
Cinder suggested I go to a
"match" with her to see what
was involved in showing dogs
and I was hooked! And thus my
journey began.
Since I had
a background in livestock - my
degree was in Animal Science -
it didn't take long to realize
that Cinder was not of a
quality to be a foundation
bitch. I was fortunate
enough to acquire a 6 year old
brood bitch, Cordova Sin-Sa
ROM, who had already proven
herself as a producer, and her
litter with me in 1976
produced 3 champions.
After much thought and
deliberation, I chose to
continue a breeding program
which included only animals
that could trace their
heritage back to Hamilton
Farms, a line developed by
Suydam and Mrs. Cutting.
I felt then, and still feel
today, that the
Cuttings' extensive travels in
Tibet made them the ultimate
authorities on this breed as
seen in their native country.
It is with much pride that I
feel that animals carrying the
Sin-Sa prefix are as much at
home in their native land as
they are at my home. |
